INTRODUCTION VIDEO

PODITECH MISSION

Dr. Tim T. Nguyen, D.P.M., in addition to building a practice as a respected foot and ankle surgeon, founded the Poditech Orthotic Laboratory in 1994. He has spent much of his career searching for a more accurate and cost-effective way to make custom orthotics. After years of experimentation, he has successfully devised and patented a customizable prescription orthotic. This patented orthotic device can be custom-fabricated by any skiled foot care provider in their office in 15 minutes with minimal effort and without specialized equipment. Most forefoot and rearfoot mal-alignments are self-corrected with Dr. Nguyen's in-shoe-STJ neutral casting technique.

Traditionally prescribed functional orthotics are the gold standard for orthotic therapy. However, since they are fabricated in a central laboratory, patients often have to wait in pain for weeks before receiving their orthotics.

The new P.O.L. Custom Rx Orthotic offers all of the benefits of orthotic therapy without the long waits for the traditionally prescribed functional orthotics. They can also be used to initiate biomechancial therapy, replacing messy strapping procedures, which required repeat office visits associated with expensive high co-pays. Eliminating straping also allows patients to bathe and shower normally.  The P.O.L. orthotics can also be used to supplement traditional orthotic therapy by providing patients with a spare pair, that can be used while their laboratory fabricated device is being overhauled or adjusted by the laboratory.

The P.O.L. Custom Rx Orthotics features a customizable, medical-grade fiberglass composite orthotic shell sandwiched between a soft top cover and more rigid EVA bottom layer. Once activated with water, the POL orthotic will retain the shape of the wearer's foot permanently.

Do Not open the sealed package until ready to fit your patient.Follow the instructions provided in the fitting instructions to find the correct size of the P.O.L. Custom Rx Orthotics for the patient's shoe size. Using the provided safety syringe,  simply introduce a small amount of water into the orthotics’ water port to begin the activation and molding process. Alternatively you may inject water into various portions of the top cover into the middle fiberglass device.

Massage the orthotic from proximal to distal over the entire course of the  shell to properly distribute the water.

Insert the orthotics into the shoe and have the patient walk for two minutes. Then have them sit with their lower extremity in neutral position for 12 minutes.

Following these simple instructions will allow the orthotic to retain the shape of the patient’s foot permanently.

The P.O.L. Custom Rx Orthotics are made in the patient’s own shoes using the in-shoe  S.T.J neutral casting technique that allows self-correction of most forefoot and rearfoot misalignments.  Many patients who have used both prescription functional orthotics and P.O.L. Custom Rx Orthotics preferred the P.O.L. Custom Rx Orthotics for their comfort and effectiveness in orthotic therapy.

During the personalization process, the custom composite fiberglass layer is sandwiched between the foot and the patented bottom EVA layer. The latter of which functions as a spring pressures it up against the foot . The process takes place inside the wearer's shoe where the foot is placed in the neutral position with Dr. Nguyen's in-shoe neutral casting technique. The process allows for the production of a 100% custom fabricated orthotic shell using the patient's own anatomy as the model. This allows the device to fit to the unique shape of the patient's feet in just 15 minutes. After activation, the orthotic shells harden and retain their shape permanently. The P.O.L orthotic  has a comprable physical strength to polypropylene of the same thickness.

The P.O.L prescription functional orthotics can be used whenver prescriptions orthotics are indicated. Many common accommodations, including heel lifts, metatarsal pads, ray  and sesamoid cut outs, Morton's extensions and others can be added as needed. P.O.L. Custom Orthotics are suitable for nearly all shoes that accomodate laboratory fabricated orthotics.

As with other laboratory devices, P.O.L. Custom Orthotics removable and transferable among shoes of similar types.
