ABOUT PODITECH AND P.O.L.
Created by Dr. Tim Nguyen after decades of development and testing, this patented orthotic device can be custom-fabricated by any skilled foot care provider in their office in 15 minutes with minimal effort and without specialized equipment. Most forefoot and rearfoot mal-alignments are self-corrected with Dr. Nguyen's in-shoe-STJ neutral casting technique.
The P.O.L. Orthotics features a customizable, medical-grade fiberglass composite orthotic shell sandwiched between a soft top cover and a more rigid EVA bottom layer. Once activated with water, the POL orthotic will retain the shape of the wearer's foot permanently.
The new P.O.L. Orthotic offers all of the benefits of orthotic therapy without the long waits for the traditionally prescribed custom orthotics. They can also be used to initiate biomechanical therapy, replacing messy strapping procedures, which required repeat office visits associated with expensive high co-pays. Eliminating strapping also allows patients to bathe and shower normally. The P.O.L. orthotics can also be used to supplement traditional central laboratory-fabricated orthotic therapy, providing patients with a spare pair that can be used while their laboratory-fabricated device is being overhauled or adjusted at the laboratory.
DO NOT open the sealed package until ready to fit your patient. Follow the provided fitting instructions guide to determine the correct size P.O.L. Custom Rx Orthotics for your patient. Using the provided safety syringe, simply introduce a small amount of water into the orthotics’ water port found in the heel to begin the activation and molding process. Alternatively, you may inject water into various portions of the top cover using an 18g needle into the middle fiberglass device. Some minimal water leakage is normal.
For approximately 30 seconds, massage the orthotic from proximal to distal over the entire course of the shell to properly distribute the water. Properly protect your patient with socks as a mild exothermic reaction is expected during the curing process.
Insert the orthotics into the shoe and have the patient walk for two minutes. Then have them sit with their lower extremity in a neutral position for 12 minutes.
Following these simple instructions will allow the orthotic to retain the shape of the patient’s foot permanently.
The P.O.L. Custom Rx Orthotics are made in the patient’s own shoes using the in-shoe S.T.J neutral casting technique that allows self-correction of most forefoot and rearfoot misalignments. Many patients who have used both prescription functional orthotics and P.O.L. Custom Rx Orthotics preferred the P.O.L. Custom Rx Orthotics for their comfort and effectiveness in orthotic therapy.
Additional accessory packages for the most common modifications are available. For patients requiring additional control or rigidity, an easy-to-apply post and additional fiberglass laminate layer are available for easy installation.
